The Lagos State Government has launched a new Artificial Intelligence-powered digital platform to significantly improve emergency response across the state.
The platform, known as the Lagos Emergency Responder Management System (LERMS), is designed to revolutionise emergency management by reducing response time, enhancing coordination among responders, and minimising false alarms.
According to officials, LERMS is integrated into a unified ecosystem called EKO HELP, which allows residents to report emergencies through multiple channels including a mobile application, USSD, SMS, and other platforms.
The system is equipped with advanced AI middleware that verifies the authenticity of callers and incidents in real time, ensuring faster and more accurate deployment of emergency services.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr Olugbenga Oyerinde, said the initiative brings together various emergency response agencies into a single, efficient platform.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Command and Control Centre (LSCCC), who supervises the project, noted that LERMS will help authenticate incidents across all devices and platforms, leading to quicker and more reliable emergency interventions.
The deployment is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to leverage technology in addressing the challenges of managing emergencies in Africa’s most populous city.
Residents are expected to benefit from improved response times to incidents such as fire outbreaks, medical emergencies, traffic accidents, and security threats.
As of the time of this report, the state government has urged Lagosians to familiarise themselves with the EKO HELP channels for effective use of the new system.
