According to a statement issued by her media aide, the move followed months of consultations and increasing pressure from constituents across the senatorial zone.

Announcing her decision, the lawmaker said: “After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator.”

Her declaration comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle, with Kogi Central emerging as a key battleground for influence among major political actors.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also used the occasion to call for unity within the PDP, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances.

“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.

Speaking at the meeting, the PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, commended the senator’s performance, describing her tenure as transformative.

“Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” he stated.

He added that her accessibility and consistent engagement with constituents have strengthened grassroots support and party cohesion.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first term has been marked by interventions in education, youth and women empowerment, alongside advocacy for infrastructure development—factors analysts say have expanded her political base.

With her re-election bid now official, attention is expected to shift to intra-party dynamics and opposition strategies as political activities intensify in the district.
