The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned a social media account on π accused of issuing statements on behalf of the party without authorisation.
The disclaimer followed widespread reactions to posts by an unofficial handle, @NDCNigNews, which claimed the party had offered its 2027 presidential ticket to Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The posts generated significant media attention and speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the next general election.
In a statement issued on Monday, the partyβs national leader, Seriake Dickson, clarified that only official communication channels should be trusted.
βFor the avoidance of doubt, all official communications of the party are released only through our verified and recognized platforms, as well as through duly authorized officials of the party,β the statement read.
Dickson listed the partyβs verified social media handles and website as the only credible sources of information.
βOur official channels on π (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are: @nigeriandchq. Our official website is also available for authentic information,β he added.
The party called on the public and media organisations to disregard statements from unauthorised sources.
It urged stakeholders βto disregard statements from unofficial accounts and to verify all information through our recognized communication channels.β
