The Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadri Momoh, and members of his Oba-in-Council have endorsed Chief Abdul Tunji Mohammed (ATM), the Balogun of Ikare, for the Ondo North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Monday at the monarch’s palace in Ikare-Akoko during a courtesy visit by the aspirant, signalling growing grassroots support for his senatorial ambition.
Addressing the gathering, the traditional ruler described the aspirant as a credible representative of the community, expressing confidence in his capacity to effectively represent the interests of Ondo North at the National Assembly.
“He is a true son of Ikare with the character and competence to represent Ondo North. He respects tradition and has never turned his back on our people. He has our royal blessing,” Oba Momoh said.
Members of the council of chiefs also aligned with the monarch’s position, pointing to Mohammed’s contributions to community development, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and empowerment, as indicators of his readiness for higher office.
In his remarks, Chief Mohammed expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as a significant responsibility and a call to service.
He pledged to prioritise the welfare of Ikare and the wider Ondo North constituency if elected.
“In Abuja, the voice of Ikare will be loud, clear, and respected,” he said.
The development adds to the early political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as aspirants intensify consultations and seek the backing of key stakeholders across their constituencies.
