Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan.
TheTimes Nigeria learnt that the meeting took place at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, less than 72 hours after a high-level opposition summit held in the state capital.
The summit had attracted key political figures and stakeholders from across the country amid ongoing efforts to build a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, a source familiar with the development who spoke with Vanguard said it was part of broader consultations among opposition leaders.
According to the source, both politicians were engaged in “strategic political consultations” aimed at strengthening cohesion within opposition ranks and exploring possible alliances.
The meeting also comes shortly after Obi’s engagement with former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Obi, after the meeting with Jonathan, had disclosed that his visit to the former President is directly linked to preparations for the 2027 general election.
Speaking after the visit, the former Governor of Anambra State revealed that he visited Jonathan to consult him about the 2027 general elections in the interest of Nigeria.
He added that their discussions focused on how to reposition Nigeria and on how all leaders can come together to make the country better.
Obi submitted that the 2027 elections must not just be seen as another political exercise, but as a critical opportunity to reset the country.
