The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has said spirituality may be the only explanation for the shooting of a suspect by an officer of the command.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that Edafe stated this on Wednesday while speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
He was reacting to the killing of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, in Effurun, Delta State.
The police spokesman described the incident as sad and difficult for the command to explain.
Edafe said, “I will start with the issue at hand, which is a very sad issue.
“Since my six years of public relations, this is my most difficult moment, because having an incident that cannot be explained is very difficult. There is no explanation for this.
“That policeman, I just don’t get what I will say was wrong with him.”
Edafe said that although the police could not officially attribute incidents to spirituality, the circumstances of the shooting were difficult to explain.
He added, “Police cannot attribute problems to spirituality, but that may not be far from me, because that’s the only explanation that one can give to what he did.”
Usman had allegedly shot Ogidi dead in Effurun after the suspect had been apprehended.
