Nigeria’s Supreme Court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) to immediately reinstate the African Democratic Congress on the ballot ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling, delivered on Thursday, follows weeks of controversy after INEC had reportedly delisted the party in compliance with a prior court order linked to internal leadership disputes.

With the latest judgment, the court has effectively restored full electoral recognition to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clearing the path for it to participate in all upcoming electoral processes.
The development is expected to strengthen preparations within the opposition camp, with prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi widely linked to the party’s evolving political structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
The ruling also comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is seeking re-election under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), continues to consolidate party support for his second-term ambition.
