Sola Enikanolaiye nominated as Minister of State, pending Senate approval
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that Tuggar stepped down to participate in the 2027 elections.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to take over leadership of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement at a time of increasing global and regional demands.
In a related move, the President nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, with the appointment subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.

Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He is a career diplomat with over three decades of experience, having held key postings in cities including Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.
According to the presidency, the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy direction and improve its global engagement.
“The President noted that these appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships,” the statement said.
It added that President Tinubu urged the appointees “to work diligently to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, foster regional stability, and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.”
