Envoys charged to promote Renewed Hope Agenda and protect Nigerians abroad
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners to intensify efforts in attracting foreign investments, strengthening international partnerships, and improving the country’s global reputation.
Speaking on Monday at the induction programme for the envoys in Abuja, the President said their roles come at a critical time when global politics and economics are undergoing rapid transformation.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu stressed that rising geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, technological disruption and security challenges have made modern diplomacy more demanding and strategic.
“The international system is evolving rapidly. We must be prepared to meet these challenges by focusing on how best to protect and promote Nigeria’s national interest,” he said.
The President urged the diplomats to adopt a more results-driven approach, blending traditional diplomacy with digital communication, public engagement, and targeted economic outreach.

He also emphasised the need for envoys to actively promote Nigeria’s investment opportunities and project the achievements of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to the international community.
According to him, protecting Nigerians in the diaspora remains a core responsibility of diplomatic missions.
In a key policy adjustment, Tinubu announced a restructuring of Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities under the “4D Doctrine,” shifting its emphasis from Democracy, Development, Demography and Diaspora to Demography, Development, Diaspora and Democracy.
He explained that the reordering places citizens at the centre of foreign policy decision-making.
“This re-ordering has put the Nigerian people at the centre of our foreign policy agenda and is aimed at harnessing outcomes for their maximum benefit,” he said.
The President further charged the ambassadors to uphold professionalism, accountability, and patriotism in representing Nigeria abroad, noting that diplomatic missions must operate with clear performance targets and prudent resource management.
He commended the National Assembly for confirming the appointments swiftly and reminded the envoys that their success will be measured by tangible national outcomes.
“You have a special responsibility in helping to reposition Nigeria in global affairs. The world is watching,” Tinubu added.
