Troops of the 22 Brigade under Sector 1 of Operation Safe South-South have carried out clearance operations in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, destroying suspected terrorist makeshift camps and recovering weapons.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that the development was disclosed in a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) by a counter-insurgency and security expert focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama.
According to Makama, the operation commenced at about 6:00 a.m. on April 24, when troops departed their harbour area in Kamenji and advanced towards Tungan Mariga.
He said the movement formed part of a coordinated effort to flush out suspected террорист elements operating within the area.
During the operation, troops reportedly discovered and destroyed suspected terrorist camps at Nuku village.
Makama revealed that six Dane guns, according to sources, were recovered from the hideouts during the clearance exercise.
Following the raid, the troops proceeded to Woro village, where the commanding officer addressed personnel and conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the operation.
The visit, according to sources, was aimed at boosting morale and ensuring operational effectiveness.
As part of efforts to strengthen the mission, the troops were equipped with an additional armoured personnel carrier mounted with a QJC weapon system.
Makama noted that the reinforcement was intended to enhance the unit’s combat capability and mobility in the terrain.
“The operation was conducted without resistance and ended successfully, according to the sources,” Makama stated.
