Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has defended the selection of Murtala Sule Garo as his Deputy, attributing the decision to Garo’s proven competence and unwavering commitment to the state’s progress.
Speaking at the 39th Executive Council Meeting held at Government House in Kano on Tuesday, Governor Yusuf highlighted that the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Garo was carefully considered, with emphasis on his past achievements and capacity to contribute to the state’s development.
“We sought someone who could offer meaningful and matching contributions to the growth of Kano. Murtala Sule Garo has a track record of service, and we believe his experience and dedication will complement the state’s development agenda,” the governor said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Governor Yusuf’s remarks come after Garo’s nomination was forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening, following the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo. The governor explained that a wide range of potential candidates had been considered, but it was essential to prioritize individuals with proven competence.
“We received many recommendations, but we looked into each individual’s past contributions, their performance in public office, and what they can bring to the table today. Garo’s political experience and his established commitment to the state make him a fitting choice,” Yusuf stated.
The Governor also praised the Kano State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for the swift and seamless confirmation of Garo. Governor Yusuf emphasized that Garo would soon be sworn in as the new Deputy Governor, urging all stakeholders to extend their support to ensure the success of the new administration.
In addition to addressing Garo’s appointment, Governor Yusuf congratulated Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the newly appointed Head of Service. He acknowledged her exceptional work as a Director and Permanent Secretary, underscoring her critical role in public service.
“I am confident that Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota will excel in her new position. I call on all civil servants and stakeholders to support her in ensuring the continued success of this administration,” Yusuf added.
During the Executive Council Meeting, Governor Yusuf was presented with 39 Outstanding Excellence Awards, recognizing his administration’s achievements across various sectors. One notable accolade was a gift of thirty thousand naira from a primary school teacher, who expressed gratitude for the Governor’s efforts in advancing education in the state.
