A member of the House of Representatives, Muhammed Jajere, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
TheTimes Nigeria reports that the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the development during plenary on Tuesday after reading the lawmaker’s letter.
Jajere, who represents the Fika/Fune federal constituency of Yobe State, said his decision followed ongoing problems within the PDP. He stated that the crisis in the party made it difficult for him to continue under its platform.
He also explained that he now sees the APC as a better option that would allow him to serve his people more effectively.
This move adds to the growing number of defections in the House of Representatives as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to build.
Recall that some lawmakers from Kano State also defected to different parties. Four members moved from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the African Democratic Congress.
Other lawmakers from Lagos, Kaduna, and Kebbi states also changed parties, leaving the Labour Party and the APC to join the African Democratic Congress.
In other news, former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has warned President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that they cannot undermine the political agency of Lagosians.
Speaking on Tuesday, via his official 𝕏 handle, Rhodes-Vivour said it was “insulting” to suggest that decisions about who governs Lagos State, or when such leaders should be removed, rest on the “feelings or hallucinations of one man and a gang of kleptocrats.”
