“I’m Trying to Protect Him”- Okpebholo Explains Why Obi Must Inform Him Before Visiting Edo State

  • Monday Okpebholo says he asked Peter Obi to inform him before visiting Edo to ensure his safety.
  • His statement has sparked mixed reactions, with many Nigerians questioning the claims and demanding evidence.

Monday Okpebholo has addressed recent controversy surrounding his comments on Labour Party figure Peter Obi, stating that his intention was to ensure the former presidential candidate’s safety during visits to Edo State.

Speaking on the matter, Okpebholo explained that his concerns were based on previous incidents of violence allegedly linked to political gatherings.

“I only told Obi, please next time whenever you are coming, because of the hostile environment in Edo State… the last time you came, people died because money was given to thugs. On the point of sharing they started killing themselves,” he said.

He further emphasized that his position was not rooted in support for thuggery but rather in preventing potential security breaches.

“So, when you want to come, let me know so that I will provide you with security. Where did I go wrong? I am trying to protect him,” he added.

The statement has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the claims and calling for evidence.

One user, @MarvellousIsra3, wrote: “They just make statements that cannot be backed by proof.”

Another, @GeeteePascal, said: “In a normal country they are supposed to be investigated.”

Critics were more direct, with @valpaschal7 stating: “This governor is a liar.”

Others also questioned the platform given to such remarks, with @MISTE_FANTASTIC commenting: “I only blame Channels TV for giving mic to this.”
