The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official portal to reflect Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the new chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The Commission updated the website in line with the outcome of the party’s National Convention held in Abuja on March 28.
The PRP National Publicity Secretary, Ishaq Muhammed disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, the updated list includes Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as National Chairman, Mr Kanu Uchenna as National Secretary and Dr Bayawo Abdullahi as National Treasurer.
Others are Mr Chuka Patrick as National Financial Secretary and Mr Vincent Okudu as National Legal Adviser.
Muhammed said the update signifies INEC’s formal recognition of the party’s new leadership after the successful conduct of its convention.
PRP crisis worsens; faction opposes ‘Kaduna Mafia’, defends socialist ideology
Recall that a group which described itself as PRP Vanguard faction had recently rejected convention that produced Baba-Ahmed.
The group described the national convention as illegal and a betrayal of the party’s founding ideals.
The National Chairman of the faction PRP, Abdulmajid Yakubu-Daudus alleged that the leadership, which emerged from a convention in Abuja, was attempting to turn the PRP into a platform for “discredited politicians” from other opposition parties.
“The PRP remains a socialist-oriented party committed to the emancipation of the masses, not a vehicle for capitalist interests.
“The PRP is not for sale to the highest bidder.
“It was founded by the working class, progressive intellectuals and the toiling masses, and it will remain so.”
