Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital appoints Dr Eigbedion as Head of Paediatrics

The Chief Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Reuben Agbons Eifediyi, has approved the appointment of Dr Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion as the new Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the institution in Irrua, Edo State.

The appointment was conveyed in an official document dated 27 April 2026 and signed by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Olakunke Michael Obagaye.

According to the notice, Dr Eigbedion is to assume the role with immediate effect, succeeding Dr Adetunji Elijah.

Prior to his appointment, Dr Eigbedion served as a Consultant Specialist Grade I and Head of the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) Inborn section at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital. He also currently holds the position of Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Dr Eigbedion has maintained an active presence in professional medical associations. He is the Edo Central Zonal Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) and previously served as the First Vice Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the association.

His leadership experience extends to residency advocacy and professional representation. He is a former Secretary and President of the Association of Resident Doctors at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, as well as a past Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Resident Doctors and the Edo State ANPMP.

Colleagues describe his appointment as a recognition of years of service spanning clinical governance, medical leadership, mentorship of medical students, and academic excellence.

Dr Eigbedion is expected to lead the Paediatrics Department at a time when the hospital continues to strengthen its role as a key referral and teaching centre in Edo State and beyond.
