The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has denied reports that the residence of a factional leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, was set ablaze.
The clarification was done by the public relations officer of the command, Buhari Abdullahi, amidst reports that Bala’s family home in Gombe was set ablaze.
The Police described the report as false and urged members of the public to ignore it.
“The Gombe State Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the false information alleging that the house of Mr Nafiu Bala was set ablaze in Gombe State.
“The Command confirms that the report is false, as no such incident has been recorded anywhere in the State.
“The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, psc(+), urges members of the public to disregard this misinformation and remain calm, as the Command remains committed to ensuring peace and security across Gombe State.”
Meanwhile, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has said neither David Mark nor Nafiu Bala has a legitimate claim to the leadership of the party.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that Kachikwu stated this on Thursday while reacting to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the leadership dispute in the ADC.
The apex court had directed Mark, the factional national chairman of the ADC, and Bala, a former national vice-chairman of the party, to return to the Federal High Court for the hearing and determination of issues arising from the dispute.
In a statement, Kachikwu said the Supreme Court’s decision vacating an earlier order of the Court of Appeal asking parties to maintain the status quo did not validate any faction.
