Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie, a known supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has stirred fresh online debate after making a series of strong remarks about former Anambra State governor and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in a post shared on social media.
The post, which quickly went viral, drew mixed reactions from Nigerians, with supporters and critics engaging in heated discussions across different platforms.
Criticism of Peter Obi’s leadership style
In his remarks, Edochie questioned Obi’s leadership qualities and his relationship with his community and supporters, making several controversial claims.
He wrote: “Peter Obi is not a true Igbo man. He does not have the spirit of Ndi Igbo in him. He’s not a leader.
The true spirit of Ndi Igbo is ‘onye aghana nwanne ya’. As you rise you lift others.
How can you spend many years in power, many years as a successful business man, yet nobody can say he’s successful today because of you.
You can’t even lift your family members. In Nollywood, there are people who will tell you they’re successful today because of Yul Edochie.
Not one person can say that about Peter Obi. Are you a saddist? What are you doing with the power God has given you?
If you can’t lift people around you out of poverty, you simply can’t lift Nigeria out of poverty.”
