Gilded Age Season 3 Filming Update Confirms Impact Of Carrie Coons White Lotus Casting

A filming update for the forthcoming The Gilded Age season 3 confirms the impact of Carrie Coon’s casting in another HBO show. Initially premiering in early 2022, this historical drama series created by award-winning English filmmaker Julian Fellowes centers around the conflict between the Russell family, who recently acquired considerable wealth, and their Old Money neighbors, the van Rhijn family. The cast of The Gilded Age is a vast ensemble that includes talented names like Coon, Morgan Spector, Harry Richardson, Louisa Jacobson, Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski.

Now, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Coon, who plays the role of Bertha Russell, reveals that the forthcoming season of The Gilded Age is going into production in July. The actor, who recently joined the cast of The White Lotus season 3, further revealed how she will balance both HBO shows, which will be filming at the same time. Read her full comments below:

Fortunately, it actually lined up pretty perfectly. I think we’re going to go into production on The Gilded Age in July. And although White Lotus will continue shooting in July, I will probably wrap out by June, just so they can get me back for Gilded Age.

The fact that both shows are on HBO definitely worked in my favor, because everyone’s incentivized to make sure everything works out. I’m very grateful to the people. It’s always the boots on the ground. It’s always, like, the first [assistant directors] and everybody working together on the schedule.

What To Expect From The Gilded Age Season 3

The Gilded Age Will Likely Pick Up Right Where It Left Off

The renewal of The Gilded Age season 3 seemed very likely considering the popularity that season 2 garnered during its run. This, however, hasn’t always been the case since the inception of the show. While season 1 also gained reasonable popularity and even a high critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, there were doubts about a renewal because the audience reception seemed fairly lukewarm. Season 2, however, managed to draw its audience in even more, and season 3’s confirmation came very shortly after The Gilded Age season 2 finale.

With season 3 confirmed to be on its way, it is expected that the period drama will pick things up right where the last season left off. The ending of season 2 saw Bertha broker a marriage deal with the Duke on behalf of her daughter, and it is likely that things won’t go down too well when Gladys finds out about this arrangement in the new season. Also, with Ada now in control of the van Rhijn family finances, it sets up a pretty interesting plotline for the highly anticipated new season.

Regarding the cast for The Gilded Age season 3, it is expected that most of the show’s pivotal stars will be returning. The show focuses a great deal on the Russell family, so Coon, Spector, Richardson, and Taissa Farmiga, all who play members of that New Money group, will all be returning to reprise their respective roles. The same can be said for members of the van Rhijn family, as well as their fellow members of New York high society and their staff. With The Gilded Age filming this summer, it will likely return to HBO sometime in 2025.
