Bandits Kill Taraba Monarch, Son

Gunmen have murdered the traditional king of Chanchanji, Tanimu Kunbiya and his son Yusuf Tanimu, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The monarch and his son were ambushed and gruesomely murdered while they were returning from a funeral service in Takum on Friday by unknown gunmen numbering ten.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, released a statement confirming the incident and characterizing it as unfortunate.

The traditional ruler and his son were deliberately attacked by ten gunmen, according to DSP Kwache Gambo, who verified the occurrence and stated that there were no records of theft.

“While returning from a burial yesterday, the traditional ruler and his son were attacked and opened fire on them which led to their death, the attacker’s main goal was to kill them.

“Our team has been able to restore peace in the area, but we have deployed our men there to apprehend the culprits and bring them to book.” DSP Kwache said.

However, the governor has directed Taraba State security personnel to look into the situation and apprehend the gunmen, emphasizing that everyone responsible must be brought to justice.

He also urged the people of Takum to remain calm, promising to do all in his power to find the offenders and bring them to justice.

He reaffirmed his determination to eradicate all forms of lawlessness and brigandage from the state, stressing that the administration’s stringent security measures have put an end to criminal and banditry era.

In addition, Governor Kefas expressed his condolences to the residents of Takum and Chanchanji  and stated he will keep working hard with allies to ensure that Taraba State remains safe for everyone.
