2 phone snatchers, POS robbers killed in Enugu
Two young men who wanted to get rich by snatching telephone handsets and robbing POS operators of their money have met their untimely death at the hands of angry mob in Enugu.
Their gory end took place weekend at the popular Garriki Market, Afor Awkunanaw.
The two unfortunate men were said to be among four hoodlums who had been terrorizing traders and residents of Garriki and their environs, but on the fateful day, the other two escaped while the ill-fated two could not wriggle themselves from the grips of angry mob that accosted them at Garriki Market after they had robbed people of their handsets and collected money from POS operators around Ebony Paint Road.
Eyewitness account has it that the robbers who had made exploits at Ebonyi entered the Garriki Market and started shooting into the air until they were overpowered.
“I saw them before they died. We heard noise and when we went we saw that they were beating two hefty young men. They said that there were four of them but two others escaped.
“We learnt that they had robbed people at Ebony Paint Road before coming here. When people saw that they were using locally made guns, they summoned courage and attacked them. One wanted to escape through the Akwata area but he was caught.
“People who were there before we arrived said that two soldiers wanted to rescue them but were overpowered and they ran away,” a yam dealer said.
