Hunger Protest: Gov. Otti Approves Abia State Skill Acquisition Program

In a bid to tackle the hardship faced by Abia youths and create employment, the Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the commencement of the Abia Skill Acquisition Program (ASAP) at Abia State Polytechnic, Aba.

The program aims to equip young Abians with specialized skills in areas like plumbing, electrical installations, welding, and more.

In a release shared by Majority leader Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Okoro on his social media handle, the first batch, of 51 participants will be trained in plumbing by a certified global-level trainer.

The trainees will be able to sit for City & Guilds technical exams (United Kingdom) which qualifies them to work internationally if they so desire.

According to the release, stakeholders from each Local Government (including government appointees, party chairmen, and non-appointees) will nominate three candidates, considering geographical spread and local nuances.

It also warned that on no account should a nominee be biologically related to any stakeholder.

It added, “Upon submission of an LGA’s nomination, we will reach out to all the stakeholders in the LGA to confirm that they made inputs to the nomination. If we see evidence that any stakeholder was not involved in the process, the list from the LGA will be rejected”.

The statement further disclosed that the Governor also approved a stipend to help trainees transport themselves to and fro the training venue.
