NAPPS urges slash of high taxation on schools in Benue  

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Benue Tuesday lamented multiple taxation on private schools talking negative toll on the education sector.

Speaking in an interview after a stakeholder’s meeting held at the headquarters of Benue Education Quality Assurance in Makurdi, the state chairman of NAPPS, Mr. Ojo Sunday Ada, said schools in the state paid taxes of at least N500, 000 yearly, irrespective of their location and size.

He said the heavy taxation is over-stretching their resources adding that the association had approached the Benue state House of Assembly to find ways of how the heavy taxation on schools could be slashed down.

He appealed to the Benue state governor to consider the plight of Benue children in private schools who are not recognised by the state government to benefit from free WAEC registration and also include them in support for WAEC registration in the next academic session.

He also appealed to the governor to wade into the problem of multiple taxation to save private education sector from collapse.

He promised to work closely with government to ensure that every of the association members meet the requirements set by government for operation of school, adding that the association welcomes demolishing and closing down of illegal or substandard schools.
