Nigerlites keeps fit amid nationwide hunger protests
Amidst the nationwide hunger protest going on across the states of Nigeria, Nigerlites, especially civil servants and friends of the service turned out in their thousands for the monthly Keep fit road-walk and exercise.
Speaking to the participants after the exercise Saturday, the Acting Governor of Niger state, Comrade Yakubu Garba, attributed the peaceful conduct of the event to the people oriented programmes and policies of the present administration in the state under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
He said Niger state was peaceful and calm and it was due to the trust and confidence Nigerlites have for the government.
He said the road-walk which was about six kilometers was done without any hindrance.
Comrade Garba observed that the friends of the civil servants and the security agencies who joined the monthly keep fit exercise did so out of their believe in one government and the leadership of Bago.
He stressed the need for civil servants to to exercise their body which according to him will stimulate both their physical and mental alertness.
He said the importance of such exercise cannot be over emphasized.
The Acting Governor also appreciated Nigerlites for guaranteeing a peaceful atmosphere despite the nationwide protest, noting that the road-walk exercise will make people outside the state to believe that the state is peaceful and calm.
“Without us telling people outside that Niger state is peaceful and calm, this road-walk exercise which has already gone viral will make people outside to know and believe that we are peaceful and calm in our state,” said the Deputy Governor.
He also promised that the monthly keep fit exercise will be sustain and urged Nigerlites to continue to support and believe in the government of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
The Head of Service of the state, Engr. Abubakar Y. Salisu said it was a tradition that every first Saturday of the month there should be a keep fit exercise for the public servants in the state, adding that despite the ongoing protest in the country the state had maintained its time table.
He said the peaceful conduct of the exercise has showcase the level and extent of calmness and peace we are enjoying in the state, which he disclosed was base on the confidence and trust of Nigerlites in the present government in the state.
In their separate remarks, the Chief of Staff to Governor Umar Bago, Hon. Abdullahi Usman Gbatamangi, the Permanent Secretaries of the state ministry of youths and sports development, Dr. Nuhu Garba Ngaski and that of the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Mila underscores the importance of the exercise, saying the turn out was massive and it is a sign that Nigerlites were happy with the present administration in the state.
