Stakeholders urge government, security agents, leaders to improve security
Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development (AFPD), a local humanitarian organisation in Maiduguri Monday held one day community stakeholders dialogue meeting for both MMC host community residents, repentant insurgents, community and religious leaders.
The town hall meeting for peace, reconciliation, reintegration and development was held at the Allamin Foundation Head Office Banquet Hall, Giwa Barrack Area, Maiduguri, for intensive deliberations and recommendations on the way forward for peace, unity, understanding and development.
The executive director and founder of the group, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, in her opening remarks said the foundation decided to bring together for the first time in history both residents, community and religious leaders to sit with the repentant insurgents to discuss their major problems and challenges in the reintegration process with a view to address them amicably.
Hajiya Hamsatu noted that the dialogue was also aimed at harnessing the concerns, hopes and aspirations of the stakeholders with the aim of achieving lasting peace and peaceful co-existence in the society for the purpose of development.
She added that in the process, an Islamic scholar and peace mediator, Sheikh Ali Mustapha Ibrahim, as been invited to deliver a lecture on Islamic doctrines and injunctions among other practices and sayings of the Messenger of God, Prophet Mohammed SAW on peace, unity, forgiveness, understanding, reconciliation and peaceful co-existence.
He further stated that the rationale behind the dialogue meeting was to gather opinions and views of the residents of host communities and repentant insurgents on their livelihood and ensure peaceful co-existence in order to strengthen capacities and wills for transitional justice and reconciliation in the state.
She noted that this is the second phase of the community dialogue on such activity which has been proposed for four selected LGAs, namely, MMC, Jere, Konduga and Mafa LGAs of Borno state, supported by Foreign Commonwealth Development Office ( FCDO), UKAID for community leaders, deradicalised women and girls, women leaders, youth leaders and security agencies.
