A woman has shared her experience of a strained friendship after she stopped providing weekly financial support to a close friend.
The incident reportedly occurred after months of consistent assistance, during which she sent ₦15,000 every Monday to help with transportation costs.
According to her, the arrangement lasted for about five months until she encountered personal financial challenges that made it difficult to continue.
“For five months, I sent a close friend, like a sister to me, ₦15,000 every Monday. No excuses, even when it wasn’t convenient. But last week, my landlord reminded me that my rent was due, and my account was already drained,” she said.
She explained that she decided to pause the payments temporarily in order to meet her own financial obligations.
Reactions raise questions on entitlement
The situation escalated when the friend reportedly reacted negatively to the decision, accusing her of being inconsiderate.
The woman expressed shock at the response, noting that she expected understanding rather than confrontation.
“I called her to explain, but she got angry and said I was wicked for stopping without proper notice. She even said I was trying to make her lose her job. Since then, she has stopped speaking to me,” she added.
She further revealed that some mutual friends supported the criticism, suggesting she should have given prior notice.
Similar disputes over financial assistance and expectations have surfaced in recent years, highlighting concerns about entitlement in personal relationships.
