Real Madrid are weighing up their long-term managerial direction, with speculation growing over a possible return for José Mourinho, who is understood to be open to a second spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on 𝕏 on Tuesday, April 28, the Portuguese coach has already signalled his interest privately, describing the potential move as a “second chapter” in Madrid.
“Real Madrid are now informed about José Mourinho’s desire to return. Mourinho has made it clear to people close to him that he would like to return and have a second chance at the club. Real Madrid will decide on the new manager soon,” Romano posted on 𝕏.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, a spell that delivered La Liga and Copa del Rey success. His tenure also re-established the club’s competitiveness in Europe during a fiercely contested era with Barcelona.
The current situation at the Bernabéu remains fluid, with club officials believed to be assessing their options as part of wider planning for the coming seasons. No decision has been announced, but discussions over the next managerial appointment are said to be ongoing.
Romano also noted that club president Florentino Pérez will take a leading role in the final decision.
Mourinho’s name has resurfaced in the conversation due to his experience at the highest level of European football and his continued presence among the game’s most recognisable managers. Since he left Real Madrid, he has remained a figure regularly linked with elite-level jobs.
