Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has congratulated the state Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that Ambode conveyed his message in a personally signed letter issued on Thursday.
The congratulatory message came shortly after politician Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, announced his withdrawal from the governorship race on the platform of the APC.
In his message, Ambode praised Hamzat’s commitment to the party and his consultative approach.
“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party,” he said.
He added, “Your deliberate and purposeful consultations with the party hierarchy and all members have demonstrated that you are a true party man committed to the ideals and values of unity and progress.”
Ambode expressed optimism that Hamzat’s experience would benefit Lagos State.
“I am sure that our state will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience and skills,” he stated.
The former governor also reiterated his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Tinubu,” Ambode said.
He noted that Nigeria’s prosperity is tied to Tinubu’s continued leadership, expressing confidence in the President’s vision for the country.
Ambode further called on party members to work towards delivering strong electoral victories at both state and federal levels.
“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver at least three million votes for Mr President and support other states in the South-West to deliver great results,” he said.
He also urged party members to ensure the return of APC senators and representatives to the National Assembly.
