Several traders and customers sustained injuries on Monday after suspected thugs invaded the popular Farm Centre mobile phone market in Kano metropolis.
The attackers, described as mostly youths, stormed the market in broad daylight, wielding sharp weapons to intimidate victims.
They assaulted people and stole mobile phones and other valuables from traders, customers, and passersby.The incident caused pandemonium in the busy market as people scampered for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed information on any fatalities, but several people were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Confirming the attack, sources in the market said the hoodlums operated freely for some time before disappearing into the surroundings.
The Kano State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident as at press time.
The invasion has heightened fears among traders and residents in the area, with many calling for increased security presence around major markets in the state to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
