A major political upset has rocked Katsina State as a sitting House of Representatives member, Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami, lost his bid for re-election after stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress settled on Abba Mangal as the consensus candidate for Katsina Central Federal Constituency.
Danlami, who is currently serving his second term in the Green Chamber, was edged out after days of high-level consultations involving party leaders, political stakeholders and power brokers within the constituency.

The emergence of Abba Mangal, son of influential businessman Dahiru Mangal, has sparked political debate across the state, especially as he was not previously known to have publicly declared interest in the race.

Sources said the consensus arrangement followed two days of intense negotiations held between Tuesday and Thursday, involving multiple aspirants and their supporters.
Although the decision effectively ended Danlami’s return bid, the lawmaker has accepted the outcome and urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding.
“I urge all my supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. We must prioritise peace and unity within the party and the state,” Danlami was quoted as saying.
Party insiders revealed that several aspirants jostled for the ticket, including Lawal Amadu Joka, Haruna Maiwada, Ibrahim Ali Guguwa, and Abdurashid Abba, before the final consensus tilted in favour of Mangal.
The development underscores the continued political influence of the Mangal family in Katsina politics. Business magnate Dahiru Mangal is widely regarded as a key political figure whose support has shaped electoral outcomes in the state for over two decades.
Analysts say the decision could reshape internal dynamics within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly as aggrieved aspirants weigh their next political moves.
Attention now shifts to how the party will manage internal cohesion and whether supporters of the displaced incumbent will fully align with the new consensus arrangement.
