A woman has sparked reactions online after questioning the sudden decline in divorce-related issues among Nigerian couples living in the UK, suggesting that recent changes in immigration-related rules may be influencing marital decisions.
Viral Video Raises Questions
In a viral video, she claimed that divorce discussions among Nigerians in the UK have reduced significantly compared to previous years.
She also alleged that many women who were once vocal about leaving their marriages are now staying back, linking the change to possible immigration consequences.
Claims of System Influence
The lady further suggested that some Nigerians had previously “taken advantage” of the system, but said recent policy changes have made divorce outcomes more complicated for some migrants.
According to her, this development may now be affecting how couples handle marital issues abroad.
In her words: “Since UK government said, divorce your husband, we send you back to your country, even asylum you will not give you, you are going back, you and your partner. Wetin dey happen? Everywhere don calm down.”
“Now this is my question for you people, our women living in the UK with their husbands, wetin happen? Una husband don suddenly turn to good people, good person now or they don learn their lessons or what? Wetin happen?”
“No more fight. They no dey beat una again. They are no longer cheating. Wetin happen? I want to know, what happened?”
“So you people are not really, really fighting for your freedom… Why una no dey divorce again now? I want to know. So all of a sudden, now you people can actually stay in marriage now in the UK?”
