Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating that Nigeria is on a stable trajectory and requires sustained support to consolidate ongoing reforms.
Fubara made the remarks on Saturday while declaring open the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Addressing traditional rulers drawn from the 17 southern states, the governor acknowledged prevailing economic and governance challenges but maintained that the current administration had recorded measurable progress.
He cited improvements in economic recovery and infrastructure development, particularly ongoing coastal road projects, as indicators of forward movement.
According to him, maintaining policy consistency is crucial to sustaining these gains.
“It is not ideal to change the goalpost in the middle of the game,” Fubara said, cautioning against abrupt shifts in governance direction.
The governor also urged political leaders, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in pursuit of shared developmental goals.
He emphasised that unity remains a vital ingredient for peace, stability, and economic growth across the southern region.
Fubara further described the hosting of the monarchs as a testament to the relative peace and stability in Rivers State, as well as its capacity to host major national engagements.
In his remarks, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who presides over the council, said the meeting was convened to strengthen ties among southern communities and promote peaceful coexistence.
He noted that the South’s rich cultural diversity, reflected in the numerous dialects spoken across the region, remains a source of unity rather than division.
The monarch explained that the forum provides an avenue for traditional rulers to deliberate on shared values and address issues affecting their communities.
He added that the council also seeks to complement government efforts in tackling security challenges and advancing economic development.
According to him, although participation in the council is voluntary, the engagement is vital for fostering both regional cooperation and national progress.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that the meeting attracted prominent traditional rulers from the South-South, South-East, and South-West geopolitical zones, underscoring the importance of collective dialogue in addressing the region’s challenges.
