The PDP and ADC have agreed to work together and present one presidential candidate for the 2027 election, in a move aimed at strengthening the opposition against the ruling APC. The announcement was made during a political summit hosted in Ibadan, Oyo State, where party leaders called for unity ahead of the next general election.
The Seyi Makinde-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) have declared their intention to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The major political decision was reached during an opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where leaders of several parties gathered to discuss plans for the next general election.
A communique from the meeting was read by PDP factional Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN), who said the opposition was determined to challenge the ruling APC with a united front.
According to him, the coalition would support one agreed candidate capable of leading the country and addressing Nigeria’s growing economic and political concerns.
He said: “We shall work towards fielding one Presidential Candidate for the 2027 elections, which shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties.”
The announcement comes as top politicians including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi have already shown interest in contesting under the ADC platform.
Turaki also accused the APC of attempting to impose President Bola Tinubu as the only major candidate in the coming election.
He added: “Despite the manoeuvrings of the ruling party, we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 Presidential and other elections.”
The summit also took a swipe at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the resignation of its chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan.
According to the communique, opposition parties have lost confidence in the electoral body’s neutrality ahead of the 2027 election.
The latest alliance between the PDP and ADC is expected to reshape the political landscape as preparations for the next presidential race gather momentum.
