All Progressives Congress women leader seeks gender parity in 2027 elections
Proposal includes reserved seats across state assemblies, Reps and Senate
Party leadership expresses support for increased female participation
The Benue State Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Helen Agaigbe, has called for 50 per cent inclusion of women in elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agaigbe made the demand in Makurdi while addressing members of the Benue 2027 Female Aspirants Forum, urging the party to adopt deliberate measures to boost women’s representation.

She proposed the allocation of two State House of Assembly seats per senatorial zone, one House of Representatives slot in each zone, and at least one senatorial seat exclusively for female aspirants.
The women leader also appealed to the APC state chairman to forward the proposal to Governor Hyacinth Alia for consideration.
Responding, the APC State Chairman, Benjamin Omale, encouraged women to actively contest elective offices, assuring them of the party’s willingness to support credible female candidates.
He noted that the party recognises the vital role of women in governance and cited the administration’s efforts at inclusiveness, including appointing the state’s first female Secretary to the Government.

Omale added that women deserve at least 35 per cent affirmative participation, describing their contributions as essential to the party’s growth and electoral success.
Earlier, the forum’s coordinator, Blessing Aminde, said the visit was to seek the party’s backing, emphasising that women have consistently demonstrated loyalty and electoral strength.
The APC leadership assured the delegation that their demands would be conveyed to Governor Alia, reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusive governance.
